Veterinary Assistant?

Will any vet employ someone with a Veterinary Assistant degree from Penn & Foster? I know someone looking into this program. I told her I think it’s a scam and she’d be better off taking the classes at a school in the area ( New England). Am I wrong to advise her this way?
hello!…i work at the rspca…your friend needs to go to college and doit properly…its a scam!
not wrong at all. tell her to work at a vet or call one to suggest a good program.
Most Vet’s will hire and train Vet Assistance without any formal schooling. It may be a waste of her money and time to go to school.
Even some Vet’s will train Vet Technicians as well. Unless she plans to work as a ER Tech or in a speciality practice, I’d tell her to skip school for now and find a Vet’s office that will train her. If she does go to school, tell her to take the Vet Tech program, NOT the Vet Assistant program. In the long run, it will work out better for her.
No schooling needed to be a vet assistant. None. Learn on the job.
In most states, a Vet Tech is a professional position that requires a license, which requires schooling.
You see all those schools on TV…like the one Sally Struthers advertised for…they offer a vet assistant program…like as a correspondence school……those are a SCAM!!!
if your friend really wants to be a Vet Assistant, she should talk to a couple of local vets to find out where she can go to school and if they would hire someone right out of school
If it is a correspondence course with no actual hands on training, most vets won’t give it much respect. I called my local vets to ask their opinions on this when I was deciding what to do as far as schooling to work in the vet field. I ultimately chose to go to college and never regretted it.
