Geriatric Nursing Assistants face many challenges from caring for Alzheimer’s patients to preventing abuse and minimizing pain. Their dedication to caring for the elderly is inspirational. Video Press produces videos and DVDs starring nationally recognized presenters to help train GNA’s to become better caregivers in this rewarding career.
You have to be able to take verbal abuse doing this job.
The problem with some people is they always want to look down on most CNA’s because all we do is change people, feed them, ect. I don’t see what’s so wrong with it. If it weren’t for people like us that care about the patients/residents then would could people rely on to take care of their family? I’m a CNA and I love it. Sure, it doesn’t pay that well, but it’s just knowing you’ve helped someone get through another day that makes the job worth your time, not just the paycheck.
this help me a lot i will b taking my state test in 15 days.. i love elderly and i need to make extra bucks.. i cant wait to take care of them
I’m an LPN at a large nursing home & I can say from 30 years experience that there is NO way we could do it, if it was not for the CNA’s.They are our eyes, our angels. Most have the biggest hearts and really care for their residents. They have hard demanding jobs, and some of the things they do, I couldn’t begin to do! I commend them! But, if you have the chance to go back to school, by all means do it. Start here and keep growing and learning. My hat’s off to you and all that you do!
THANK YOU! MY POINT! People on here complaining about cnas when they probably haven’t done the job there selves
Just because you think cna is terrible doesn’t mean all people think it is. I’m getting ready to be a cna before I even become an RN. And I think For me, It will work out. My mom was a cna and she liked it. Depends if you have a heart or not. some idiots just do it for money and don’t care for the patients.
50% of your success as a CNA is your reliability. Getting to work on time and not calling off. When you get your paycheck make sure to ALWAYS go over it carefully to make sure you got paid for all the hours you worked because sometimes your check will be short due to some idiot who plays games with the money. If you are the type of person that could and would enjoy helping the sick and disabled out of the kindness of your heart MORE than for the money, then the CNA job is a good fit for you.
MOST LPN & RNS GET ANYWHERE TO $20-40HR
Personally , I believe CNA have it tough , I mean the things they go through and see is worse and more stressful than the RN.
I doesn’t get much better than having some 80 yr old try to beat the crap out of you while you try to change their diaper… NOT!!
Being a CNA is a terrible job and if your parents are smart they would make sure you were enrolled in an LPN course from the beginning if health care is what you want to do. No high school student should be working in such a stressful job like a CNA. In a perfect situation, a high school student shouldn’t be working at all but only focusing on getting good grades but I know thats not the reality. I would not have my child working as a CNA no way. I would encourage LPN and then RN.
and we wear gloves when messing with body fluids, so its not like im cleaning up poo with my bear hands….and its great pay for a 15 year old.
Wow, At all you guys complain about this job. I`m 17 and about to graduate from high school, Ive had an internship with a nursing home and I love working as a CNA. I mean some people don`t like other peoples body fluids but you gotta start some where to get experience, if you wanna be an LPN or RN that’s why most people get there CNA license. I love this job and it pays for my car and untill I make more than I can move out of my moms house but it pays a 17yr old bills.
I’ve been working in health care for years. My advice to anyone is get out of long term care. The pay is horrible and the work is degrading. I work in critical care now, it’s a huge difference in pay and work load. We take vitals, draw blood, EKG’s, glucose monitoring, answer call lights and assist nurses with patient care if needed. That’s right, nurses do their own patient care. We work together as a team, unlike long term care!
CNA’s are heros, but at the same time don’t complain about pay. Do something about it and further your education to become a Nurse..
This is in baltimore, i can hear the accents
Being a Nursing Assistant is not glamorous at all. Any mistakes you make at work no matter how minor, are ALWAYS remembered A LOT MORE than all the excellent things you do. You don’t get any real respect from the nurses or doctors(unless you demand it). As the C.N.A. you are the highest at risk for contracting MRSA, C-Diff, TB, and other infections which can be transmitted through casual contact. Lastly, if you’re not working double-shifts or 2 jobs, then the pay rate is barely a living wage.
One of the worst job ever! It’s a stressful job, patients treat you like dirt…most nurse’s don’t do shit. Some of them act like they can’t put a sock in the patient’s feet. Man, it not easy but just put God 1st. The pay rate is not rewarding at all!
I was wondering,
Why A CNA gets $11 per hr,in america,
but in the nhs, there known as healthcare assistants only get like £6-7 per hour, is it just the currency?
and how much does a RN/LPN get?
I’m a nursing assistant,I hate the pay.I feel that we do the bulk of the work, and we are thought of as less then an LPN,or RN.The comments I hate the most are,you are so good at what you do,I could not do this,I don’t know how you can do it….Let this be a lesson to all young people thinking of becoming a CNA..don’t!!!!! all a CNA is hired for is to clean SHIT,and anyting else that an LPN or RN dosen’t want to do….
I am a CNA and I started out at 10.50 an hour, and when I got my certification I now make 11.50.
Try looking or hooking up with Pro-respite care, they pay $15.00 per hour to help people at home.
I work as a RCA as we are called here in B.C. Canada. The wages vary here and you can be paid as low as $12.00 per hr. but well run facilities pay up to $22.00 per hr. All other provinces in Canada pay worse. I do not understand why so many states and provinces pay so low a wage for such an important and crucial position.
I am a nursing assistant and have been for 11 yrs Ienjoy it at times but I am really tired of it and Ineed a change thats why I’m going to nurseing school
I was a CNA from 1985-1999, it sucked. I started at $4.10 an hour and ended at $11.00 an hour. I am now a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, starting pay here in the Northeast, $12.00, but I am only part time. Some MA’s can perform phlebotomist’s duites, but they also do a lot more.
