The common goal of veterinary technicians is to promote animal health. In fact, in order to be ethical animal health technicians, there are many points for the vet techs to take into account when they are performing their duty.

First of all, it is important for all the vet techs to provide excellent care and quality services for all the animals whenever and wherever they are. It is their duty to prevent animal abuse and take good care of the animals in the animal shelters. It is also their job to relieve and comfort the suffering animals. Furthermore, it is the effort of the veterinary technicians to collaborate with all the members in veterinary medical line to ensure quality health care services for all animals as well as their owners.

All the vet techs are carrying an important social responsibility. They are accountable in promoting public health. They play an important role in assisting with the control of animal diseases and informing the public about the related diseases which may affect human health. They are also responsible in maintaining a balanced environment.

As we know, all the vet techs are requested by the state governments to attend continuing education programs every 2 years for renewal of their license. It is a must for them to obtain latest information and new technology from time to time. Apart from the legislation, as ethical vet techs, they should always remain competent in the veterinary technology through their own commitment in lifelong learning.

To sum up, in order to meet the ethical obligations of this profession, it is advised that all the veterinary technicians should always refer to the code of ethics which are clearly stated by American Veterinary Technician Board.

For anyone who cares and loves animals, a career as a veterinary technician may be ideal for them. Although this job can be very stressful and tiring, ultimately it gives great satisfaction as it helps to promote animal health. Here are some useful information for those who are interested to get involved in this profession.

First of all, it is necessary for you to differentiate the differences between a vet tech and a vet assistant. These two professions are totally different in terms of academic qualifications and job descriptions. It is a MUST for a vet tech to get a license before he or she can perform the tasks in the work place. There is no such requirement for vet assistant. The vet tech has more complex duties and responsibilities compared with the vet assistant.

Secondly, it is important for you to know your possible working venues. A certified veterinary technician can obtain a wide variety of job opportunities in the following places, such as veterinary hospitals, clinics, zoos, research facilities, animal shelters, pet shops, grooming salons, veterinary pharmacies, etc. Although we are experiencing economic difficulties currently, the prospects for this profession keep increasing. This is because most of the pet owners are becoming more and more aware of their animals’ physical needs.

After knowing your job opportunities, it is time for you to get a better understanding on your duties. In general, a veterinary technicians work under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian. A vet tech is actually a nurse to the patients. Their daily tasks include diagnosing diseases, providing intensive care to patients, administering medications, collecting and performing blood test, providing injections and dental service, handling medical and surgical equipments, etc.

Before you can be a qualified veterinary technician, it is a must for you to get the right education and training in order to equip yourself with necessary knowledge and skills. Enroll yourself to any of the veterinary school which offers a 2 year program accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association. After completing the course, you are then required to sit for the State Exam to become certified. Finally, you can start your career.

Last but not the least; you need to bear in mind that it is necessary for you to pursue continuing education program from time to time in order to renew your license according to the state’s requirements.

At a time when health insurance coverage is the number one debate, there is another type of insurance which has not been discussed. Are you a pet owner? If you are, undoubtedly you are just as concerned about your pet’s wellbeing. In this regard, have you considered purchasing coverage through a veterinary pet insurance company?

Just like human beings, pets and all other animals are not resistant to illnesses or accidents. The cost of veterinary care for pet can be costly, as you know. Additionally, it can cause a family hardship if they are unable to pay for the cost of an operation or emergency assistance.

While every owner loves their pets, there are those who do not feel it necessary to purchase insurance for them. However, before buying any pet care insurance, you should research different pet insurance policies that are being offered by the pet insurance companies in the market. Do not settle on the cheapest price. Different insurance providers have different types of coverage, and it you should determine the best and affordable one for your pet.

Whichever veterinarian pet insurance company you choose, they will recommend taking early preventive action to ensure a long and healthy life for your pet. New puppies and kittens should be examined within 48 hours of bringing the new pet home. It is important your pet receives all of the vaccinations, health screenings and routine care that your veterinarian recommends. Be sure you understand your pet’s vaccination protocol before leaving your first veterinarian visit.

In most scenarios, the veterinarian will ask you to return for the pet to receive additional booster vaccines in only three to four weeks. Preventive care, such as annual vaccinations and boosters, is critical to the long-term health of a pet, so be sure to include these annual preventive care expenses in your family’s budget. Another important health matter for pet owners is the animal’s diet; pet health experts frown on feeding pets table scraps. Human food can cause your pet to develop gastrointestinal problems and may lead to other problems. The cost to treat your pet can run into hundreds of dollars.

Of you are a pet owner who is looking for methods to lessen the burden of veterinary costs related to preventive care and the unexpected injuries and illnesses associated with a new pet, it is highly recommended that you enroll a new dog, cat, bird or exotic pet into a veterinary pet insurance company plan.

Most veterinary insurance company plans reimburse you for the testing and treatment associated with conditions related to accidents and illnesses; cuts to cancer are typically eligible for coverage. In addition, you also can add on an option for routine procedures such as the aforementioned vaccinations, spaying and neutering, teeth cleanings and more. Monthly insurance premiums are often less than a cable television bill. Keep your pets safe and use preventative measures to ensure they remain healthy as well.
